The Department of Languages at the Second Medical Faculty of the Charles University, provides teaching and testing of specialist medical terminology for all disciplines taught at the Second Medical Faculty.
Particularly important are the Greek-Latin medical terminology and English terminology for first and second year master's degree students of Medicine, first year bachelor's students in Physiotherapy, and students in the first two years of General Nursing studies.
An indispensable part of the department's work is also teaching Czech for foreigners, for students in the 1st to 3rd year of the General Medicine in English program. The department teaches both general Czech, as well as professional medical Czech with the support of doctors from the Department of Internal Medicine UHM (University Hospital Motol), with a direct link to the teaching of clinical propaedeutic in the 3rd year.
Employees of the department also provide translations of some faculty documents, proofreading of Czech and foreign language texts, and provide language tutorials.
The Department of Languages is also a proctor of professional exams in the English language for students in doctoral programs.
Lastly, the Department has a long tradition of teaching foreign languages in paid courses for students and staff of the Second Medical Faculty and UHM. The courses offered are English, German, French, Spanish and Italian, in cooperation with external lecturers.
